Maye Musk shared her insights into her eldest son’s early genius in an interview with “CBS This Morning.” She explained that she recognized his potential at the age of three, which eventually led him to become an influential entrepreneur and the richest man in the world.
“Even at the age of three, I knew I was a genius,” Maye Musk recalls. She tried to send him to kindergarten early, but the staff just rolled their eyes.
Regarding his son as a genius, he said: “But many geniuses don’t use their talents. They end up in the basement somewhere. That’s why I was thrilled when he founded Zip2, which simplifies driving directions and provides restaurant links for newspapers. Today, that may seem commonplace, but back then, it was groundbreaking, and that’s why I invested in it.”

In a profile for The Times UK, he said, “I called Elon ‘the prodigy.’ He remembered everything.”
His early recognition of Elon’s potential marked the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey, which would later encompass ventures such as PayPal, space exploration, solar energy, and electric cars, despite his advice to focus on just one.
Maye Musk was interviewed for a BBC documentary in which she called her son a “genius.” She also explained that her son “gets a lot of hate” due to his enormous success.

In 2022, Maye Musk defended her son on X, formerly Twitter, in the face of a flood of negative comments on his recent posts. She claimed that the critics of his controversial posts were not real people, but automated bots, and emphasized that much of the criticism came from fake accounts.
This defense came after Musk publicly announced his switch from a Democratic to a Republican voter.
In the same BBC interview, she recounted her experiences as a science enthusiast in high school. She explained that she didn’t go on many dates because she insisted on dating someone as good at math and science as she was, which no one except her ex-husband was.
